Links with our local community
Within walking distance of Trafalgar Square with its enchanting galleries, a short bus ride away from the museums of South Kensington and on the banks of the Thames, the school could not be better placed to provide a rich and stimulating curriculum.
We have strong links with all three of our local churches and pupils enjoy singing at services:
- St Paul's Church - 'The Actor's Church' in the heart of Covent Garden
- St Clement Danes - the central church of the Royal Air Force
- St Mary le Strand - a Church of England Church in the centre of the Strand
Cultural and creative development is a vital aspect of every child’s education and at St Clement Danes, located in the heart of theatreland, the curriculum provides a wide range of opportunities for this development.
Our annual end of year performance at The Royal Opera House is one of the highlights of the school year. The whole school takes to the stage to sing, dance and act in one of the world’s most prestigious venues. Our productions, supported by the staff and technicians at The Royal Opera House thrill the audiences and leave them begging for more! Our pupils have also participated in the BBC Go-sing initiative, and the Sing Up London project, which helped us strengthen our ties with other London schools.
Tate Britain is one of our local partners. The children work with a wide range of artists in residence and have exhibited work at the gallery.
The school works with local businesses, in particular HSBC, Liberty International, Bain Card Company and Pricewaterhouse Coopers. Do have a look at the Eco project we did with Pricewaterhouse Coopers in our Pupils section. The school has a good relationship with the In and Around Covent Garden community association and this puts us in touch with a wide range of business people from the local area.
We have visits by the Chinese community and the school has taken part in the celebration of the Chinese New Year festival that culminates in Trafalgar Square.
The school takes part in the annual Westminster in Bloom competition and our attractive school environment teaches children the importance of caring for their environment and taking pride in their community.
The school building is used for an under-fives drop in and parenting classes in English, art and ICT.
