Welcome to St Clement Danes

Welcome to St Clement Danes, a school graded as outstanding by Ofsted in November 2014. I hope our site guides you through the enriching experience that the children are absorbed in here at our small, friendly school in the heart of Covent Garden.

Our purpose at St Clement Danes is clear. We aim to stimulate and challenge every child, in every lesson every day. We have a dynamic, hard working ethos where parents are expected to work in partnership with teachers and staff to ensure their child reaches their full potential.

Our school motto is: ‘Our values are our anchor’ and our core values are: Friendship, Thankfulness, Wisdom, Forgiveness, Endurance and Service. Our pupils are explicitly taught to link these important values to their everyday lives.

Every child’s individual development at our school is greatly enhanced by a high level of adult support. We have approximately 230 children on the school roll, with one form for each year of entry. There are 12 teaching staff and 16 additional support staff. We have a stable staff and children develop strong relationships with the adults who care for them from when they enter our Early Years Unit aged three  to their transition to secondary school aged eleven.

Our history

Our school, which was founded in 1700, has a fascinating history. The current building in Theatreland, on Drury Lane, is a fine example of Victorian architecture.

Internally, the remodelling of the school building and school’s technological  infrastructure, offers children all the facilities they need to fully prepare them for life in the 21st century. Please read more about our school’s history and traditions, the school building and our outstanding Ofsted Report of December 2009 (for information technology).

Our setting

Our children’s lives are culturally deepened by our extensive use of the school’s magical setting. Our children perform on the stage of the Royal Opera House annually and regularly visit the wide range of galleries and museums on our doorstep which include Somerset House, The London Transport Museum, The National Gallery, the Tate and the British Museum.

The children’s spiritual development is highly valued. The school has strong links with the Actor’s church (St Paul’s in Covent Garden) and the RAF’s home church, St Clement Danes as well as our own parish church St Mary-le-Strand. We welcome children of all faiths and celebrate the diversity in our school community.

St Clement Danes is very fortunate to receive financial assistance provided by St Clement Danes Educational Foundation. This provides funding for additional facilities not normally available from Local Educational Authority funds. This helps the school to provide each child with excellent opportunities.

Please do look around our school website and find out more about the daily lives of St Clement Danes’ children. We also warmly welcome visitors in person so don’t hesitate to make an appointment by contacting us.
