A treasure from the past!
In assembly this morning the children were shown a wonderful historical treasure that was recently donated to our school: a letter written by Mrs Mabel Lynch, a former headteacher of St Clement Danes, to a parent.
One of our four school houses, Lynch House, is named after Mrs Lynch who was a teacher at the school in the early 1920s and later became headmistress. During the Second World War, when many of London’s school children were evacuated, Mrs Lynch ran an emergency wartime school in our present school buildings.
We haven’t yet been able to find a photograph of Mrs Lynch but this letter gives us some helpful clues about what she was like! We are very grateful to Mrs Lyn Baker who kindly gave us this precious glimpse into our school’s history.
