Thank you, Mrs Leonard!

As we bid a fond farewell to Mrs Leonard after nearly 33 years at St Clement Danes School, her week of surprises continues!

On Tuesday afternoon, she was guest of honour at a thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Church in Covent Garden.  Special guests included members of her family, several former pupils and former colleagues, as well as governors and trustees. These visitors joined staff at a celebratory afternoon tea in the school hall after the service.

Each class, from Nursery to Year 6, had prepared prayers, songs and poems which they performed in St Paul’s Church.  A prayer was read by the parent of a child in our school and one of Mrs Leonard’s former pupils (who is currently writing his dissertation at Leeds University) had travelled to London especially for the occasion and read a passage from the Bible at the service.

At the end of the service, Mrs Leonard was presented with an icon of St Clement and an ‘oranges and lemons' tree. Each child in the school had written a message for her on one of the tree’s leaves.  Father Simon then said special prayers of thanks and blessed Mrs Leonard for her retirement.

On Mrs Leonard’s final days at St Clement Danes, today and tomorrow, she has been invited to visit each class in the school for farewell tea parties. The children have enjoyed this special time with Mrs Leonard, sharing happy memories with her.  We will miss you, Mrs Leonard!!
